Music at TESS: Muchas Gracias

Music at TESS: Muchas Gracias

Muchas Gracias

Thanks to the Ryzinksi family for YET AGAIN hosting the Faculty Holiday Party at their lovely Westport home.  A long-standing tradition of yummy food, much Christmas music and lots of fun.  This year was especially special as it the first time we've had the same teachers two years in a row (real friendships!) AND the guys all brought their girls - definitely a plus!

Cello Party

Many thanks to the Krishnamurthy's for hosting our first Cello Party!  Kavia performed for her pre-school friends and then gave them a turn.  Thank you for hosting us in your beautiful home!

Website Launch!

Spent the day editing our new website, which will hopefully be launched the first week of December!  It has a great new look, and we can update every picture, every heading, every article to keep it completely current.  It's always been a great resource for new students, but now it will be a timely resource for current families.  Forget where the recital is? What to wear? It will all be on the site!  Check out www.musicattess.com, now and later, and tell us what you think!

The Power of Practice

Fan Mark Famous sent me this article - a very compelling argument for hard work!

Zaturday Zaniness

Getting ready for another crazy Saturday at TESS!  With 90% of the school scheduled on one day, we are always alive with music, joy, and yes, chaos from nine to eleven every week.  Add some graduation recitals, a Norwalk Symphony Orchestra presentation by moi in Wilton, and we have one busy Saturday!
Special thanks to Miss Claudia and Ms. Marija for their special concert this Sunday as a fundraiser for the free lessons in Bridgeport schools program, KEYS.  Good luck!

Brace Yourself!

My time of peace is ending... for now. With Winter Registration due this week for classes and mini-terms, we will be rushing to accommodate everyone's request so that we can be ready for new students by December.  Fiddling, electric violin, rock guitar, and more!  With the fabulous recitals behind us, it is time to focus on the future!

Visions and more

The guitar department is on fire! Dave and Michael have been dreaming about what they'd like to bring to TESS and the guitar department - concerts, master classes, and more! Very exciting to have more faculty board the idea train!

Surviving Recital Day!

This weekend we had our main recital day - four hours of guitar, violin, piano, flute, and cello students playing everything from Twinkle to Polish Dance.  Everyone played beautifully in spite of three cases of missing music, one case of missing shoes, one missing violin, and a sudden conflict between football and the recital!  Two more next weekend.. wish us luck!

Wow! One of my friends posted this video on her facebook: www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1039034103087&ref+nf.  It's a beautiful short film on how a cello is made in a modern shop in Italy.

The Magic of a Recital

Our student recitals begin this weekend, and the kids are so excited to participate!  Today was great, everyone was well prepared and focused on presenting their music well.  Registrations for the new term are rolling in and all is well in Suzukiland!

Crack that whip!

Spent a pleasant afternoon at the school doing supervised practice sessions with the kids. Parents commented on how nice it was to see the children go into their rooms to practice for an hour or more and focus - something that never happens at home! They made great progress and had a real sense of accomplishment when their time was up. Hopefully they will remember their success and try it at home! We will definately do this again....

Welcome!

This is the first of what I hope will be many posts about the joy of music and the privilege of teaching it to young children!  I teach violin and piano, and other teachers teach flute, guitar and cello as well.  We start teaching children as young as three, and they "graduate" to our advanced program, Aspiring Young Artists generally as pre-teens and teens.  What a thrill to be part of their lives as they grow into the next generation!
